How To Overcome Obstacles in 5 Minutes A Day

Why do some people overcome obstacles with apparent ease yet others falter?
Is it something that comes naturally?
Are they heartless?
Do they care?
Is it something they learnt?
Are they just ... better than me?

Marli and Mo Online Marketplace

GUEST POST: Natrice Grosvenor Co-Founder of Marli and Mo Online Marketplace shares how it all started ....

It all started with a cracking idea, (over a coffee and cake of course…) with a lifelong friend of mine Debbie Stahmer. We were both discussing options of work around our babies. Of course both wanting to achieve a happy balance between work and life and be there for our families. We both share a love of all things handmade and visit our local markets often. Although both agreed it was getting harder to visit these with screaming kids in tow. We were both very familiar with online shopping and the benefits it brings, especially as busy mums with small children.

Introducing Francois - Sketches in Stillness

A short time ago I stumbled upon was led to a Facebook page where I discovered some beautiful sketches with equally beautiful quotes.

I wrote to the artist Francois and asked if I could use his art on the blog and I was so happy when he replied with a resounding yes!

So from time to time, when it helps to illustrate the article, you will be blessed with the artistic styling of Francois, Sketches in Stillness.

You will also be learning more about him in the future as he has agreed to let us all know about his creative world.

So to introduce you to his work I have picked out three for you to enjoy and I hope you enjoy them when they appear with HMBM articles.

Selling with Success from your Facebook Page

Today I was going to publish a post about where you can sell your handmade creations. It was quite an in depth look at your options and I was recommending you to not use Facebook as anything other than what it is, a Social Network. It was actually a rather good look at the pros and cons of selling on your Facebook Page given the changes in receiving notifications and of course getting your posts seen in your fans newsfeeds.

That is until I was alerted of a new Facebook App which will not only make selling easier but also help you to grow your business.

Lets face it, we are busy, and a lot of the reasons behind most of you selling on Facebook is not just about money but more accuratley about time. It takes time to post photos and update your Facebook page and it takes even more time to list and categorise your products on your sales platform to sell. Time is precious and I am going to give you the ticket to grabbing back some of your precious time!

When The Love Is Gone - Why Facebook Page Fans Click Unlike

Like, what was once such a small harmless word now carries so much weight but very little real value. New page admins get so focused on gaining new likes for their pages that they forget, or worse, don't even consider to target their audience. Like ladders, promote pages, giveaways, all aimed at increasing the number of likes on the page but what is the point?

Is your message clear

When I first  decided to launch my new venture I reached out to a few contacts I had on Facebook,  you know, to get support and to network. I got back some really positive replies and one that was a little brief and I didn't quite understand. I didn't look into it further as I didn't really take offence.

Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities Threats

Otherwise know as S W O T

You may have heard of it before or you may be scratching your head right now wondering if you are reading another language but the simple SWOT analysis can help many a business (regardless of size and nature) and it is so under utilised.

Everything Depends

Somewhere between cuddling Ladybird to sleep the other night and being woken at midnight by Turtle evacuating the contents of his stomach (insert stripping bed sheets and doing washing when should be sleeping) I had read an article by Evan Williams about everything you read about start ups is wrong and I felt calm fall upon me.

To assist you navigate the endless information available I have created a matrix to help get you started. Each site is linked for you to go directly to the source when you choose to further investigate.

Change is essential

This little plant has been in it's pot for the longest time. In the perfect part of the yard for growth yet it remained in a dormant state, no growth, no foliage.

Two weeks ago my brother re-potted it into a bigger pot.

This morning I was shocked to see this beauty and another on the way.

Change is good.

15 FREE Online Photo Editing Sites

Researching for this post I found sites I didn't know were out there. Some are simple and some are more complex and a knowledge of editing with layers is needed but all are worth the time to look into and see which site will best fit your needs.

I saw this acronym (T.G.I.M.) the other day in my Facebook feed and it really resonated with me. I can't help but wonder if our perpetual self talk sometimes sets us up for failure.

This very simple template can be so effective when it comes to trying to getting some sort of structure for your week. I have used this on and off for *ahem* over a decade now and find that I turn back to it when I feel life getting a bit out of hand.

From Humble Beginnings .... Jen Kennedy

How it all started ....

I first discovered “Facebook” as a selling platform in 2010.  Before then I didn't “do” Facebook and had no idea about the growing handmade community on Facebook.  When I started out I was lucky enough to be supported by more established pages.  Their support and advice was invaluable in establishing my own page.
Jen founder of
Collaborate For A Cause
In mid-2011 I went to Brisbane to catch up with some family and while there was lucky enough to meet up with some ladies I’d “met” via handmade on Facebook.
